Our front garden makeover is progressing! I shared the vision here, and tackled some of the borders here, and now we've reached the exciting part... Planting!
With a minor adjustment to our garden design, we've positioned three dwarf citrus trees along the right side of the front yard (next to the peach tree). Here's how it appeared at my last update:
To ready the ground, I excavated three holes measuring 30cm deep by 1 metre across and blended our exceptionally sandy soil (which suits citrus beautifully) with potting compost to boost soil fertility, then formed gentle mounds where the trees would sit:
I settled them into place and watered thoroughly. The guidance we received from Perry's Fruit & Nut Nursery, where we purchased them, was that straightforward. Also, for those curious about the nursery itself, I'd certainly suggest visiting—excellent customer service and competitive pricing—our trees cost $39 each, which represents excellent value for years of harvests! (Looking forward to our first harvest so we can assess just how worthwhile these investments prove!)
Here's our current progress:
With Easter just round the corner, we're aiming to complete more work in the front yard ahead of the wedding (and the colder months). I'll share more soon!
Cheers,
Kate xx
