| Eco-Conscious Fragrant Pillows by Pom from Pomegranate. Infused with natural lavender, rosemary and clove. Shop on etsy. LOVELY. |
The Scent Sense website was developed to help consumers learn about the components and hazards of the fragrances they purchase. Before the late nineteenth century, fragrant products and perfumes were crafted from rose petals and other natural substances. Today they are nearly 100% synthetic, with ingredients frequently unlisted on labels, including those that may damage health. And it's not simply body fragrances (cologne, bath products, shampoos, mouthwash), mind you, it's also home fragrances (surface sprays, rubbish liners, greetings cards, pencils, tea towels).
Scent Sense is an excellent starting point if you'd like to learn more about what goes into the products you buy. The site takes a balanced approach, steering clear of dramatic exaggerations or unsubstantiated assertions (which is why I find many other sites unconvincing—they often seem dogmatic and disconnected from reality).
Visit Scent Sense by clicking here. It's a valuable resource for exploring the products you use and their impact on wellbeing and your home. Another option is purchasing from independent makers (such as Pom by Pomegranate, above) and backing brands that prioritise ethical and safe ingredients and manufacturing methods.
