passionfruit eviction notice

There's been a very unhappy passionfruit vine growing beside the carport since before we arrived. It's been craving sunlight and room to expand, but has remained trapped in shadow, battling an invasive vine from next door.

Time for a change! Once Kym and I decided we wanted to reclaim that part of the garden (further updates coming soon), the moment had finally arrived to rescue the poor plant from its predicament.

Don't worry—I didn't harm it. I'm incapable of harming even insects, let alone plants I genuinely care for (they're better conversationalists than humans and our poultry). I trimmed it back and relocated it to the one-day-it'll-really-be-a living wall out back. We've already established a couple of other passionfruit vines in that area, though one got destroyed by cabbage moths (fortunately it was inexpensive!) and I discovered that they grow better planted together since it enhances cross pollination and makes the fruit tastier.

The plant wasn't thriving in its old spot, so I'm keen to see whether this fresh start revives it. (And if it doesn't, we've got another waiting in the wings—fingers crossed it flourishes when spring arrives!)

Here's how it looks in its new location:

Like any plant, this one will require some patience to recover from the transplant and establish roots before displaying noticeable development. I'm hoping, though, that this occurs before another sweltering summer descends on little Adelaide!

As for where it used to be, here are some fairly basic before and after photos showing how much more spacious the area appears now the vine and framework have been taken away:
