After two years of following the Pinterest Challenge posts on Young House Love, I've finally mustered the courage and joined Shelly's "let's do this" movement.
The task: to at last dress my bare office window with some fabric.
The inspiration: DIY No Sew Curtains by Suzie at The Accent Piece, found via Apartment Therapy.
The challenge: with limited spare cash to spend, my curtains needed to be fashioned entirely from items already scattered around my home, which also meant I had to stitch my no-sew curtain since I didn't have any fusible webbing on hand!
The outcome: Interestingly, I ended up using the same pair of curtains I'd taken off the window a year earlier! The curtains were originally full-length and together formed the ideal width for my window. I stitched the two curtains together and altered the hem to suit, hung them from the (regrettably oversized but it'll have to do) curtain rod and there it is! A finished curtain! I then fastened them with a couple of bootlaces after discovering I had no nice ribbons at home, so I should mention: Kym, my apologies (though not entirely sincere) for borrowing your bootlaces. I'll return them once I've picked out some ribbon I'm happy with.
Key takeaways: 1) It's entirely possible to refresh your home affordably. 2) Hoarders might be onto something worthwhile. 3) Repurpose before purchasing. You'll reduce expenses, effort and needless clutter.
I'm keen to eventually reupholster my office chair and paint the walls in something a touch deeper (maybe a soft grey... or when Kym's not watching, blue ink). After that I'll probably dye the upholstery to conceal. the. flowers. From what I see in the photo, I might also take up the curtain hem later since it looks to be an inch too long! (I'll gauge how much it irritates me initially)
Have you completed a project you've saved? Beyond a few wedding inspiration pins, I reckon this is my first!
